Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg began in 2003 as a local ARD station following a merger of SFB and ORB. More than 1,900 employees produce radio and TV programs for the greater Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan area. During the planned infrastructure overhaul, the rbb playout system also had to be modified.
Task:
The overhaul focused on HD compatibility and a completely file-based workflow. BFE was responsible for modifying the playout system and making it state-of-the-art.
Solution:
An Imagine Communication ADC 1000 system was used for 24/7 automation with a fully redundant design with main and back-up device servers and databases. An ATT workflow system from Netorium was chosen to control the media management and transcoding. A Harmonic Mediagrid was used as the central memory storage.
The IT infrastructure was built on Dell servers and HP network switches. All clients in the broadcasting center were connected via a core-edge topology. Maximum reliability was ensured through redundant core switches and a dedicated duplicate connection to all servers.
The infrastructure is monitored via a BFE SinAlarm system. The monitoring system also has a redundant design, including feedback of faults to the administrator.
